Art Program

"It's not what you look at that matters…it's what you see."

- Henry David Thoreau

A popular program at the DT Center is the "ART Program". This unique and innovative program, facilitated by two very talented local artists, provides individuals with a creative means of self-expression and increases their self-esteem. The "ART Program" is very empowering and affords participants the opportunity to not only "discover their inner artist" but also gives them the tools to express themselves through the arts. Many amazing pieces have been created and recognized as being superior work, winning awards in various art contests throughout the state!

Participants in the ART Program showcase their paintings at the Artisan Fair held annually at the end of April on the Courthouse Square in downtown Effingham. At this fair their artwork is sold and all profits go back to the artists. During the "Arts and Hearts" portion of the Artisan fair ARC-CSS holds an art auction. There are many donated items including paintings from the artists of the “ART Program” and the other artisans participating in the Fair. Proceeds from the auction support the "ART Program". In addition, their paintings are featured every April at Joe Sipper's Café and in a revolving display at the Helen Matthes Library.

A selection of the artists' paintings is used to manufacture greeting cards and blank note cards. They can be purchased on-line at then click on the "ArtAbilities" Greeting Cards link. The artists are proud and excited to be able to share their artistic talents with the public and the additional funding from the sales of the cards will further support the "ART Program", allowing them to continue doing what they love . . . .painting!
